The day started innocently enough. We went along with our little friend Madeline to watch her get her ears pierced. All of us were very excited as she had been talking about getting her ears pierced for quite some time and the big day was finally here! Jenna was very curious about this whole situation but has NEVER (not once) EVER indicated to us that she was even remotely interested in piercing her ears. In my mind, this was good because I wasn't going to let her do it anyway for a few years. So, she quietly watched as Madeline picked out her earrings and got her ears pierced. Not surprisingly, Mallory (Madeline's little sister) was up in the chair next and shortly thereafter hopped down with her newly pierced ears. So, after seeing not one, but two of her friends survive the whole process I felt the tug on my sleeve. "Mom, I want to get my ears pierced, too!" Oh my.
My immediate internal reaction was "NO!", but after thinking about it I decided that it really wasn't a big deal if she got them done now. So, I was on board with the idea but there was one problem. Tom wasn't there and I certainly wasn't going to do it without talking to him first. So, we left with the understanding that we had to talk to Daddy. The whole way home she talked about it. Tom didn't have a foot in the backdoor before she was bouncing up and down in front of him asking for his permission. He quickly agreed and seconds later we called up the McCarrons to see if they were up for another trip back to Claire's that evening! I had no idea when I woke up that morning that Jenna would be getting her ears pierced that very day...and on a complete whim!!
Here she is before, during and after:

Jenna really wanted Hello Kitty earrings, but unfortunately they were out! She was quite disappointed, but settled on her second choice...a pretty pair of rainbow flower earrings. She was very brave and didn't shed a single tear!

Jenna's support team: my friend Bonnie and Madeline and Mallory

Here are all three girls with their new bling! After leaving Claire's we headed to the Hello Kitty store and found a pair of Hello Kitty earrings for Jenna. I'm sure they'll be the first ones she puts in when she takes out her studs! She was very excited. What a fun day!
